The update lands alongside a broader Apple Watch software change that took effect September 9, 2026, recording heart rate variability as discrete SDNN samples written automatically to HealthKit, a technical shift that gives both Apple’s own AI features and third-party developers a richer, more standardized data stream to work with.
Why It Happened
